Pretty sure I can make the E34 harness work. We'll see.
Nothing to be confused about, it works fine. Yes, you will have to pull it a little bit to get it to reach. Yes, the plug will be on the opposite side of where it is stock, in the glovebox. I can't come up with a good reason why the orientation of the DME matters. It's not rocket science, and not hard work. Just tug on the harness a bit and bolt the DME down. This is by far the easiest part of the swap.
NEED HELP!Bought an e30 with an m50tu swap single vanos. The car wasnt running because it had no harness so I went ahead and bought an e36 harness because I heard it was the better choice for the lenth issue. I hooked everything up to the sensors correctly(used a wiring diagram from bmw) however I am now cranking the vehicle over but it won't start=/ I didnt have fuel pump engagement, fuel injector pulse, or spark but after finding the ckps to be bad I now have spark and I know the engine runs because i manually grounded the injectors and gave power to the fuel pump relay and it started=0 I'm not sure at this point if the e36 harness is whats going on because I have heard it works but I have two black wires coming out by the 20 connector on the passenger side by the firewall and I'm not really sure if they should be power or ground or both? has this happened to anyone....the dme is a red label e34 dme

FWIW - I wish I'd found an E36 harness instead of an E34. Oh well, it works (other than the fact that I modded the crap out of it anyway). A clean automatic harness would have been cheap and easy to mod, and it would have fit better.
