What. If the whole rotating mass was lightened. The cranks knife edged, the rods lightened and everything balanced

Swap m50 for K20, why the hell would you want to rev to 10k.

Jon Holder had a motor he was running to 9500 with a turbo. He had a lot of trouble keeping it together and the turbo lag was insane. (Amazing sound, though.). You could always ask him what evosport did.

But yeah, I would expect to get anything you run to 10k to last - if nothing else, you're looking at fun harmonics. And don't forget to dry sump it because there is no way that he stock oil pump will take it.

          why? no, really. why?

here's a data point for you - BMW says for every 100 rpm past 8500, engine wear *doubles*. Tell me how long an M50 would last at 10k.. and then think about how much it would cost to make it last more than 4 seconds.

where do people get these ideas? it's almost as if you don't know anything about engines. ;)

When i was interested in k20's ... i learned that not even that engine can rev 10k.... not worth reving to 10k when 8k is enough and the sound is awesome.... my opinon :D
And then again i would't trow a honda engine into a BMW ... BMW has it's own engines that rev the hell and sound amazing and have 10x more tourque then honda engine's...

geez, way to stomp on someone dreams. How about a little encouragement for the guy! You all have to admit It'd be pretty cool if he did it........for at least a min or 2 before it smashed throught the side of the block

24V M50, M3 cams, Turner Tune, full exhaust, ect....

This build would replace the term "moneyshift" in the BMW lexicon to "moneyrev".

I'd recommend putting it in neutral and just go for it...otherwise I have nothing of value to add :giggle:

I'd love to see the cam you'd have to run to make power... Maybe aim for a more practical 8k?

How about a morE practical 8.5k? What would I need to do to go there? And a fun fact would be that at a 9k redline vs A 6k redline a engine can make up to 50% more power. I Am trying to make the most streetable setup out of what I have and since I don't have more displacement for low end torque might as well get more power from reving higher.

                          about $30,000.

it's not going to be streetable, either. you can't just rev it to the moon, the head has to actually be able to flow at those speeds or it won't make any more power. all that top end flow = lost velocity at the low end.

look at the torque curve on a stock engine, it dies at 6k. the head can't flow anymore. you can increase it with cams but there are diminishing returns, and your idle will be like 1500rpm.
