what should I do to rev a m50 to 10k

Jon Holder had a motor he was running to 9500 with a turbo. He had a lot of trouble keeping it together and the turbo lag was insane. (Amazing sound, though.). You could always ask him what evosport did.
But yeah, I would expect to get anything you run to 10k to last - if nothing else, you're looking at fun harmonics. And don't forget to dry sump it because there is no way that he stock oil pump will take it.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

why? no, really. why?
here's a data point for you - BMW says for every 100 rpm past 8500, engine wear *doubles*. Tell me how long an M50 would last at 10k.. and then think about how much it would cost to make it last more than 4 seconds.
where do people get these ideas? it's almost as if you don't know anything about engines. ;)

How about a morE practical 8.5k? What would I need to do to go there? And a fun fact would be that at a 9k redline vs A 6k redline a engine can make up to 50% more power. I Am trying to make the most streetable setup out of what I have and since I don't have more displacement for low end torque might as well get more power from reving higher.

it's not going to be streetable, either. you can't just rev it to the moon, the head has to actually be able to flow at those speeds or it won't make any more power. all that top end flow = lost velocity at the low end.
look at the torque curve on a stock engine, it dies at 6k. the head can't flow anymore. you can increase it with cams but there are diminishing returns, and your idle will be like 1500rpm.Last edited by nando; 07-19-2011, 02:37 PM.
