Dissected an unnamed sellers 24v swap wiring adapter

Wasnt getting power to a peake tool at all among some other little issues so i pulled his adapter apart and didnt like what i saw.

To be honest the customer bought this and not me (as i rewire the E36 harness with a C101) so im not even sure who he bought it from.

Wont post pictures as to not incriminate whoever made it but ill just say some "hot" wires were just left hanging out under the wiring boot and some other wires werent connected that needed to be.

    That is all.

I have a feeling it's probably the same seller I got mine from, we actually ended up pulling it apart and just hardwiring directly into the X20 connector.

Hardwire is definitely the way to go if you can (if you have the know-how, or in my case, know someone that does). An adapter is just going to leave you wide-open for problems.

Useless thread without naming names. Could also be damaging to people making good adapters as well. Just my opinion.

I would say delete this unless someone is named. Whats the point. SOMEONE out there is making bad adapters? There a lot of people making them and this is just going to put fear in all of them. Again, IMO!

I think the point is buyer beware. and person X isn't making them anymore, to my knowledge..

of what? Everyone? How would you know who to beware of? This is damaging to you as well since you make adapters. But surely a Mod wouldn't fuck one up. Or could he.

I'm saying this in jest, but If I were going that route if would make me question even doing the swap to begin with. Some will say then thay shouldn't be donig the swap to begin with. I say the more people putting money into these 20 year old cars the better for all of us. More companins willing to spend money on developing parts and upgrades for us. meh maybe I'm reading too much into this, but if someone is buying an adapter, then they def can't wire it themselves so how are they going to check the adapter to make sure its correct?

Insert a thread onto r3v where they get told to get the manuals and figure it out themselves?

BTW nothing toward you Dave as we have dealt together before and I have nothing but respect for you. (perfect s52 block)

well if you want to see how I build one I'd be glad to show you. I can also show you pictures of a brand-X adapter. Finally I include a build sheet so you can double check my wiring. I'm not really worried about somebody copying my chart, because it's all based on public info. People are paying for experience and knowledge, plus I bought tools to make them that cost more than what you could build one yourself for (keeps everything factory-like, plus easier for repeated builds).

I'm not infallable, and being a mod doesn't really mean anything. But I *really* don't want to melt somebody's harness.. and I can tell you, the way the "other" one is wired, some people will experience that, unfortunately. At the scale I'm doing this I can't possibly afford to be replacing people's melted wires. Unless you're the "other" guy, then you just say "sorry, too bad for you" and disappear with everyone's money.

I think the moral of this thread is just check and recheck the harness using the ETMs...no matter where it came from. It will only help you when diagnosing a potential problem.

I dont make adapters. I cut off the X20 and re pin each wire individually myself and insert into a C101. I also hardwire the oil level sensor into the harness as well as the AC connector in the glovebox. I have made my own conversion manual that includes every single little weird thing in the adapter that i have found in countless hours of ETM searching and recording. I have a notebook full of each and every page anything relevant is mentioned on and use that to go by.

The unnamed person didnt power the diag connector at all and used pin 20 as a ground for the OLS when they went to a need to connect to make ABS work power wire in ~89, stuff like that.

And again, because i adapt harness' myself and do business here i dont want to start a thrashing/bashing thread because thats not the way i roll. People will use my stuff because of what others have said about me and whatnot, i feel like going out and bashing another persons work does nothing but make a business look bad. Im simply stating to the community of r3v that if you have "an" adapter and are having wiring issues to investigate it.

I realize that the OP doesn't know who made the adapter, but still...

or just do it yourself. we have had to redo several "ready to go harnesses".

Just got a customers M50NV running with a different persons adapter and they were shorting the big green ignition wire to ground. Lovely.
