Anyone using 3.46 Diff behind a ZF trans?

    I had my 3.46 in my s52 car for 2 years after switching from my 3.25. I loved the 3.46 around town and in the canyons, but it did rev kinda high on the freeway. A week before selling my car I switched to a 2.93, as the 3.46 is a much rarer LSD to come by. Any how, I love the ZF + 2.93 combo!

    For all around driving I think the 2.93 is better then both the 3.25 and the 3.46. With 235/40/17s all around, I was hitting 64 mph in 2nd, and around 107 in 3rd! The 2.93 revs low on the highway to save gas, while allowing you to downshift to 3rd at even 80 mph and be in the fat of the power band.

    0-60 time went from 4.8 to 4.5 because I didn't have to shift into 3rd! For auto-x, drag racing and on the track, I'd say a 3.46 is more potent. However, for all around driving I prefer the 2.93 the best. Long gears are more fun IMO.

          I love the 3.23 i'm running. For all street use, a 2.93 would be better, and for mostly track use 3.46 would be perfect. I like the middle ground.

            ZF + 3.46 is short even with stock diameter tyres. It does make for good acceleration, but you top out at 145 mph and at 75mph you're over 3500RPM.

              I ran a 3.46 and loved it. Switched around diffs a little bit and always went back to that one. Car pulled very well and the ratio was perfect with the ZF for me.

              If anyone is interested in buying a low mileage m coupe 3.23 let me know. Diff cover not included.

                  +1 I have an M50TU with M3 cams, and the 2.93 is perfect for DD use. For Auto X I find the 3.25 to be more fun, but out here it seems the 2.93 is still better suited since I have to shift less. Even with the 2.93 I will get to redline in 2nd 2-3 times on the layout. Since I also run 225/45/15s (for autox) that have a shorter rollout, this helps the torque anyway...

                        ZF 5mt+ 3.64 or 3.73 is the popular track configuration for e36m3 (s50b30 us or s52b32 us).

                        if you have the footwork and tire to handle that on an e30, do it.

                        if dd'ing the setup a 6th gear or overdrive 5mt would be better
