Brake booster setup: why *wouldn't* you slot the firewall?

So it's well known that there are several proven ways to get proper clearance between the intake manifold and brake booster. My question is basically what the thread title says: why wouldn't you just slot the firewall holes a 1/2"? Unless I'm missing something it seems pretty easy and it's cheaper (assuming you don't have an e21 or ix booster laying around).

I haven't done a 24v swap and I'm not trying to imply there's something wrong with the other ways, I'm just trying to understand the rationale of each way.

    Thanks

It appeared for me while under the dash installing my iX booster that its very clutered and would be a bitch to do correctly, and your push rod that connects to the brake pedal will be crooked. I was all for the said idea of just moving it over, but upon actually doing it, the iX booster seems to save headaches, as long as the MC threads arent stripped like mine.

I have done a coupe of swap my first swap was with an IX booster and the second was with an original booster. The IX booster was a standard bolt in and very easy. As for the stock booster..the moving over 1/2 was easy. Then came the part of modifying the arm to work it was a pain.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I kind of figured it must be for a reason like what you stated...if it was as easy as "just slot the holes and you're done" then everyone would do it.

If you skillfully modified the brake pedal so that the pushrod was once again straight , i dont think it would be much of an issue.

It's only your brakes, what could possibly go wrong? haha

It might wear your M/C out a little quicker from the side load to the piston.

im in the middle of my m50 swap, an opted to slot the firewall, instantly regretted the decision just because of how awful it looks and i feel like the way i drive i may break that section of firewall now.

and i dont like the idea of the sideways rod, although it may be fine if its a ball type connection

I did it, and I shall tell you that I will never do it again. On paper it looks easy but once you actually shift it over, the brake pedal bracket gets in the way. Then there is the issue of having the pushrod sit at an angle.

You need to attach the pushrod to the side of the pedal to make this work properly. If the pushrod is at an angle, you're stressing the booster a lot.

                          This is why:

(This is the only car ive ever done it on and its mine)
This is how to maintain proper booster angle. I moved it over 1+".
I want to know you people that claim to move it 1/2" shim the F out of the motor because i refuse to and i had to move it this much for it to clear.

                          Will never do again.
