I noticed the fuel consumption wire that feeds the economy gauge also goes through the DME. I found that mine was not connected at all.
Any chance that would affect engine running?
    mine no worky either.

Is this what makes the gauge actually work? Mines working and reading well it seems.

          87 325i/e34 harness/413 red DME

Mine runs like a fucking champ, never hunts for idle. Pin 42 gets its speed signal from the green plug on the back of the cluster.

I know you guys don't have a C104 but maybe this will help to get your econometer working (although it won't be accurate)
DME Pin 24 on mine goes to the c104
DME Pin 14 on mine goes to the black wire of the c104

plus - how old are your vacuum hoses???? reusing old hoses is like reusing gaskets....may work but probably won't

Hear that folks? E34 harness! All us guys with problems have E36 harness's! Im not going crazy! Never had this issue with my last swap car and it was exactly the same setup and pinout chart as my current one which has an E36 harness!
Econogaug did work on my last swap car too :(

I find it hard to believe it's because of using the e36 harness, maybe coincidence?

Being that I've timed the issue on my car to start running correctly after 8:45 to 9:00 minutes 5 times, this leads me to believe it's a sensor problem somewhere.
...too coincidental for vacuum leaks or burnt up wiring...UNLESS the DME is programmed to ignore the problem after a certain time.

I should check my 02 sensor, should I check at the 02 sensor plug? Or at the relay?

I checked mine at the engine side of the O2 plug (peel back the boot). Check for voltage at between the BRN and GRN wires.

You can also check for voltage at the socket for the 30 prong of the relay. I'm not sure if it matters if the relay is plugged in or not though. I guess you could jam in a wire with the relay plugged in like I have at times for testing.

Was going to check today but I forgot I did install a new ICV and that did nothing :(

                            Sorry to hear that...

Those of you with E36 harnesses, was your harness from an auto or manual?

Mine was an auto and I stripped out the wires.

Bought an E34 manual harness from 328ijunkie...I'm going to put an end to all of this. If my car has the same problem, well, may god help us all.
