Is there anything wrong with the $33 14" IE Fans? I'm assuming that's why everyone would rather drop 150+ on one elsewhere

Would anybody be interested in a aux fan mount that allows you to run the ZIRGO fan series on the E30 with CFM options of 1200,1500,1800,2800.

I made the mounts for a customers car that fit one perfectly into the frame of the condenser and utilized stock hardware and bushings. They would all be powdercoated and require no drilling. I could easily make a few more.

Also the pricing would be very reasonable.

        Thoughts?

^if you made it for the spal fan mounts, then I'd be in

I'm not familiar with the ZIRGO fans you speak of.

I wouldn't spec a Zirgo fan for any cars I build. Their spec sheets scream totally unbelievable figures, then have a disclaimer at the bottom claiming that "THG LLC is not responsible for any inaccuracies in the above instructions."

Their specs only give CFM in relation to the measurement distance behind the fan?

There is also a glaring error in the directions to change the zirgo fan into a pusher. You can either change the polarity to the motor or flip the blade. They clearly instruct that you do both. :loco:

A Spal 16" curved blade fan pulls around 22A when mounted to an e36 radiator and claims to move around 1600 CFM.

The Zirgo 16" curved blade fan claims to pull only 8A while claiming to move 2700 CFM.

The Spal spec sheet below is an example of what a fans information SHOULD look like(notice how it give the correlation of back pressure to amp draw and CFM). Th Zirgo is an example of a spec sheet from companies sourcing products made in china and throwing out garbage Chinese specs that are what the buyer wants to see rather than what the builder needs to know.

Thanks for all this awesome info.

I ZERO attachment to the zirgo fans. I can make the mount to function with any fan.

When I make the second revision on the mount I will use a SPAL fan, those spec sheets are higher quality.

If I read this right, I can run the 16" spal pusher with my AC condenser and not see any mounting issues? My clutch fan is dead and I really don't want to replace it with another if I have a better option.

I use the stock fan with no condenser (AC Deleted) & 82 deg switch
                  Works awesome.
The IE fan will be just fine. Halifax has a milder climate than SoCal...

I've used a 16" low profile SPAL puller and a low temp thermostat on my track rat for a long time with no overheats. My M20 doesn't run hot so I've never had a problem; even with extended idling. If I were to do it again, I would use a spal pusher on the front of the radiator, which would make working on the engine a lot easier. The pusher is less efficient, but space is very limited. Not having a mechanical fan also reduces stress on the water pump.

Very interested in doing the change over to electric. Tearing down an SETA in the morning for that good old junkyard stroker. Would LOVE the extra space to fuck with my belts, remove the possible grenade effect of the stock plastic fan exploding, and the chance of a dead fan clutch.

I'm switching to an e-fan as well...this is the best fan thread I've been able to find so I have a couple of questions for my M42.

                            1) Would a puller suffice on mine after I take out the clutch fan? Or would a pusher be better? I don't currently have a/c due to a blown compressor, but I may fix that later.

                            2) If I'm not going to be wiring it in to a thermostat, what's the best way to wire it in? Directly to a 12v source so its always on? Or to a manual switch? Or is there a better way to do it?

I have a spal puller on my m42 and it's plenty. Honestly if your cooling system is good and up to date on the m42 u barely need the fan. I wired mine in with a 35 dollar thermostatically controlled fan harness from autozone and it is simple to hook up. And you can adjust the temp you want the fan to kick on at.

I was looking at those, the one with the probe that goes thru the fins on the core. Only thing I have trouble with is the wiring, I suck at wiring relays and fuses. I can do basic wiring and soldering, but that's about it. :?
