I think its hit or miss but not only have I seen it but its been reiterated by others who have had the same experience.

Steve went through 2 stock M20 clutches on his supercharged M20B27 i engine setup before he finally had to go with a UUC flywheel ad m5 clutch.

I've seen them fail on enough other people's S50/S52 setups I now play it safe and stick to the dual mass clutch setup. One person might have no issues and another have an exploding PP. But so far I hear 50/50 in relative experiences.. to me that's a to much to chance considering I've yet to hear someone claim their S52 stock PP explode.

The simple fact is that a big part of how long a clutch lasts is due to the driver. There's a reason some people just get 15K miles out of a clutch and others get 150K.

So if you're talking about just torque capacity, held in a controlled dyno situation, a basic M20 clutch will survive for a reasonable amount of time behind the S50/S52.

But... if you're actually enjoying a motor-swap E30 as it was intended, you're probably not just using it to drive Aunt Martha to the Piggly Wiggly on Sundays. You're probably hooning it up a bit. Otherwise, what's the point?

So if you're a fan of 2nd-gear tire spin on the shift, the M20 clutch will be a short-timer.

Considering that a clutch change is not exactly an easy procedure, it's a case of "do it right, right away" and avoid future difficulties.

As for ebay vendor clutches... <shudder> That cheapie stuff is very useful for teaching the difference between quality name-brand product and generic ElCheapistan imported stuff. Analysis on those that we pull out of cars here is always good for a laugh!

Well that was quite hilarious watching a (stock suspension?) E30 do that, thanks for that ;)

I've actually read many people on bf.c saying good things about the F1 clutch kits (except for the TO bearing) also heard in comparison to a Spec clutch you have to go 1 stage higher to find the F1 equivelent.

if you use a sachs 618 pressure plate, a stock M20 cutch disk will hold 300nm, more than enough for an S50.

with the stock pressure plate, probably not..
