Pretty good, not sure about the aluminum though, especially with the filter right next to the radiator/hose. It'll fit with the M50--if you use that same radiator.
BMP Design made a all aluminum box like that for the air intake, and the oil cooler. They seem to do a lot of research, so I do not think that its that ineffective being aluminum and all.

Hold a piece of aluminum in your left hand, hold a piece of ABS plastic in your right hand. Apply a flame to both, and tell me which one you let go of first.

To tell you the truth - the reason behind using aluminium was it's ease of manufacture - especially as I wanted to machine the top to resemble the M50 engine cover.
Having said that, even on the hotest days (I live in the tropics so hot days are damn hot) it doesn't get more than warm to the touch - I'm not sure but I think the powder coating may help. If it was a serious problem I could line it with some heat reflective material.

It would make sense to have one since most people have their cone filter sitting in the middle of the engine bay where the temp is highest.
Anyone have a pic?
MGYVER - if you want to see a small writeup of mine with a couple of more pictures. Obviously from the previous posts it wont be much use if you have ABS or if this is where your radiator overflow bottle is...
However it is a good way of hiding the power steering reservior aswell to help tidy up the engine bay a bit.

Oh, I wasn't knocking on your design--it's fucking sweet. I was just commenting on Petta's remark of "research being done".

Yeah I know you weren't :) (and thanks for the compliment)
Let's face it...aluminium is cheap, easy to work with, light, takes a range of finishes, disperses heat well....so while "research" may have been done - I think the cheap and easy factor may have counted for a lot....ahahha
So has anyone ever done this with anything rather than an M42 radiator? Is there anyway to do this with S50 radiator, the expansion tank, cruise control and ABS in the way?

I have a e36 m3 radiator with the late model expansion tank. It works really well and I have a heat shield as well. No fitment problems at all.
