I installed a 1991 m50nv head into my 1997 m3. Kept all original s52 everything (cams, cam trays with clearance fof s52 counterweighted cams, s52 lifters, s52 vanos and s52 cam sensor)

well if it helps, using the m50tu sensor which is plastic i ended removing the ridge form the sensor to allow it to sit flush to the head, used a 18x2 oring instead of the 17x3.
if you don't remove the ridge from the sensor it will have a 2-3mm gap between the head so the sensor will be far from the trigger wheelComment

Forgot to mention this until another member brought up the question but be aware that you will also need the VANOS crank dampener (the space in the teeth is in a different location), wire harness, and of course valve cover.
Good thread. Nice to have something to refer people to when they ask.Comment

Robert
Is there a part number i could refer to? I will cross check it at realoem.com
Ok i checked realoem.com and the non vanos damper has a number of 11231730311 and the vanos damoer is a different number 11231738620. Is this what you are refering that i need a Vanos vibration damper since the teeth space is in a different location? Then i need to go to pick n pull to get it. Valve cover and wire harness already have, the valve cover is the one on the engine alreadyLast edited by amcink; 05-28-2013, 06:39 PM.Comment
