Hold the crank bolt and loosen the 8 flywheel bolts

Remove the 8 bolts?

You'll also have to take the starter off to put it on a stand.

Edit sorry didn't see your previous post. Try putting the end of a pry bar in the tooth of the wheel and bracing it against something. That's what I had to do when torquing mine down. Worked ok

This is actually a much better idea.

There should be a small hole on the drivers side of the engine, at the rear. It may be covered by a blue rubber-like plug.

Rotate the crank bolt at the front until a small cutout is visible through the small hole, on the back of the flywheel.

Place a deep well socket (10mm if I remember correctly) through said hole, into cutout on back of flywheel.

Loosen bolts.

More complex than simply placing a big wrench on crank bolt, but this method is the actual way it is done, and doesn't involve a second set of hands.

That's an excellent job for an impact wrench. Also, keep an eye on the strap, I had a strap get cut on the edge of a fork once, now I use chains exclusively.

i doubled up the straps just in case. also im in my work garage which has no access to an impact/ air gun unfortunately :( im just trying to get it on to the stand so i can start taking it apart inspecting/cleaning it and replacing some gaskets and seals as well as start putting on the c101 connector.

A socket and breaker bar on the front of the crank works well. Just let it rotate around and stop against the floor. No need to hold it.
