sent my M52 to the machine shop, gave it back with a bag of dowels. please help!

after picking up my machined block and head, I got a small baggy with these dowels in it, ive searched my bently for help but haven't found any definitive information on them. two larger ones, and two small solid ones. I believe one is between the head and block but im unsure on the other ones. anybody have any of those detailed and labeled black and white photos that may help me figure out where these things go? hoping to put this back together in the next few weeks

Sleeves like that will usually be used to help locate the head on the
Block, or the trans bell housing to the engine block. I'm not sure about the smaller pins, maybe the flywheel to help position the clutch pressure plate? What did the machine shop say?

the two small ones go through the timing cover on the front. you will see the holes in the timing cover and the block.

It's not from timing cover, those are still intact

the two hollow round ones go on the block and position the head, not sure about the two pin ones

What kind of machine shop doesn't give you an explanation when they pull a fistful of bits out of your motor? That sucks.

Yeah. Slightly upset about it. I know there's some in the timing cover but those are still in the cover. I don't want to start assembling the motor and find out those dowels were needed early in the process.

Did they replace them and give you the old ones back?

I got lots of parts back from the machine shop.

They didn't replace them. I just need to figure out where they go ASAP. I've searched for diagrams and pictures and can't find exact locations

i've got the old head i pulled off my S50, i'll look at it tomorrow

This happened to my friend and they swapped the dowels around to line up the trans, so when we went to line up the trans it was a real fight for an hour. Good luck, I'd like to know why machine shops do this.

the #1's are the dowel locations
