I'm running the e30 shift carrier with my e36 zf trans and didn't have a issue. Wasn't too short.
Shift Carrier Question

I'm not sure why no one's mentioned this but with the E36 carrier, your shifter is off to the right. I put mine in and saw that my shifter isn't centered, I checked everything over 10 times until I looked at the two carriers side by side. You can see it clear as day in the OP's pic, I've drawn a centerline through the cradle so it's obvious. It's not a huge deal or anything, I can still engage 5th no problem and since no one's mentioned it I guess so can they (I haven't driven my car yet). Just something to consider when using a transmission that's known for being happy to go into any gear any time, with 2nd gear being a little too close to where 4th should be...

I just used what I had. Mine is a 89 325i alum carrier.I didn't even know that people had the issue of it being short. Only issue I had was Shifter rubbing on the driveshady but that's from using a z4 lever.Comment

You said the shifter was off center with the e36 carrier, so does that mean with the e30 piece it won't be?
I'm just trying to get the correct part before I install one and figure out it doesn't work properly.Comment

Stick with the E36 part, which you've already ordered.Comment
