He has the either the euro oil pan/pump setup or the S54 setup. We've performed this upgrade on three cars now

Does it require the E36 pan? Were those conversions you did on a swapped E30?

It requires an S54 pan (those are readily available) or if you can get your hands on the euro pan that'll work too. They're the same exact layout I just think that the E46 M3 pan is slightly different in design.

        The conversions were on an E36 318ti (OBD2 S50), an E36 318i with an S52 swap and a regular 328i...

Ok, so rear sump pans... I guess if I ever do a TinyT / ArcAsylum pan I can consider this upgrade as well...

Yeh that would be a *great* time to do that  I want to do this on my own car as well but don't have the time unfortunately. Customer stuff often takes priority. Took me six months to install my friggin squared headlight adapters.

Ain't that the truth. The cage has been half done in my own Spec car since Apr, but have built about half dozen cages since :(

The M3 Lightweight sold in limited quantities in the US for 1995 and came from the factory with the dual pump pickup/pan setup. I'm not sure if it's from the Euro M3 of that era, or something special for that model (pretty sure its the former).

This may be internet hearsay, but ive heard(read) that the s54 oil pump puts out less volume. Reason being, the s52us had hydraulic lifters, s54 does not.

It's the pan and pump from the Euro M3.

LTWs were sold with the stock US S50 pan installed, but in the trunk there were the splitter, wing, dual pickup pump/pan, and some other goodies. Installing those voided the warranty but they were offered at no cost (splitter is now worth $1500 used, so.....)

The dual pickup pan pretty much eliminates lifter tick on the US motors when tracked. It's a fantastic upgrade. You reduce your oil capacity from 7qt to 5.5qt, but you no longer get oil starvation, so....net win.

The S54 pan and pump can also be used as it is basically the same, and can be sourced way easier nowadays.

The real trick parts on the LTW were the aluminum doors.

Yup. 20lbs instead of 35 (or was it 15 instead of 30, can't remember now) for the bare door. Mine came from the M3 Evolution in the UK.
