I was looking today at a 97 528i and the thermostat housing has a bleeder built in. Seems to me that might make bleeding these swaps 12x easier. Anyone ever tried it?

Assuming you are talking about the m20 I've never had an issue bleeding mine.

M52 swap. This is the 24v swap sub forum.
The traditional way of doing this swap is with e30 radiator and e36 thermostat housing. Which means you have no bleeder anywhere in the system.
This seems like an easy fix to that.Comment

^ in theory the overflow tank should be self bleeding.
In actual practice it only starts to self bleed after you have bled about 95% of the air out already.
One thing I noted today is that the hose that I used on my swap and that many other people use will not work for the e39 housing because the hose bottlenecks right after the end that goes on a normal e36 thermostat housing.
An e39 hose may work. Will have to do some research.Comment
