e36 has 2 different dipstick tubes. obd2 is larger in diam and has oil recovery drain from seperator. e34 tube (i think sticks too) are a different length than the e36 ones. use the e34 tidbits or your oil reading will be off.

        cheers, jason

I just did a side by side...

The E-34 tube and dipstick are slightly shorter than the E-36 counterpart. Same diameter for OBD1
However, they are a matched set. Shorter tube, shorter dipstick. They reference to the same position relative to the block/pan joint.

I don't see any reason why the E-36 set wouldn't work as long as the stick and tube are used together.

            hi guys,
I am also performing the M50 swap into my E30, and i bought the 525i oil pan. When i removed the original one there was the oil pump pickup line that extends to the end og the block, since the oil summin is at the back, and the 525i oil pan summin is at the front.
can this pick up line be changed????
i saw the posts before but i need to make sure, and it would be really helpfull to describe the actuall procedure.
Thnx alot guys, u've been really helpfull :D
