You put washers behind the nut, in front of the flange, to basically push the flange back against the output shaft?
I find it really hard to believe that even after covering the splines in grease, fluid is leaking through the splines. It would have to displace the grease, and then actually squeeze through the nearly non-existent, perfectly machined gap between the metals.
But if it worked, cool!
