Ebay headers, + freeflow exhaust = loud ass mofo

I had a single 2.5 inch all the way back to one of the nice looking SS Magnaflow one in two outs... that was so freakin annoyingly loud.

just add a resonator or something after the cat... and the cat will not affect the sound.

It's the magnaflow. I have those headers on my 325is, into single 2.5", magnaflow cat, to a Borla universal straight-through muffler. It's quiet as stock at highway cruising, and has a awesome scream at higher rpm's under load. My friend put a magnaflow on his otherwise stock 325e and it was so loud just cruising around you couldn't hear yourself talking...

^^ its two people on borla's (40980 $175MSRP) with nearly stock sounds and screams up to...my car sounds waay to sexy period. look into it.

good info. i will have to look into replacing this muffler, and getting some nicer bends on the pipes. i was looking at the piping, and the shop i used made some ugly ass bends.

some of those bends cant be avoided... it gets ugly around the trailing arm and unless you want to scrap on everything they gotta be there...

unless you plan on boost, stay with stock downpipes/cats/resonators.

To posters above comparing sound of their 325i with original m20 to m/s5x swaps: that's 9:1 vs 10.5:1 and 2valve vs 4 valve per cyl = big difference in noise

its going to be supercharged, but i guess i can swap out the cats at the same time.

that bend is fine and the rest of your exhaust is fine ex i would have high temp painted it to preserve it unless you plan to run it for some time to burn up oils etc and then paint it black....its the muffler, looks good but i say do away with it

i agree. the muffler is a single in dual out magnaflow, with tips welded on. i dont think it has any baffling in it at all, just straight through. im going to replace it soon, along with that ugly ass bend.
