    West Coast gas.

Ok, so my M50 has been running a Dinan chip and back in DC I had no issues with it. Ran great.

Now that I'm in Seattle it pings like a bitch on even the best local gas. I'm starting to think that something is wrong with the car. Is the West Coast gas that much crappier?

What are you guys doing to run the performance chips our here?

Please don't make me go back to stock!

source some higher octane fuel to mix with the 91 available out here. Thats the highest octane available. No one out here has problems with the gas and their chips because most are formatted for 91 not 93 or higher. If you are here for god I would say sell your current chip and find a Jim Conforti or a Mark D chip formatted for 91 octane. It will cost more to source high octane fuels out here and mix them then it would to just buy a lower octane formatted chip.

I never had a problem with my chip and 91 octane. I know there are a few Alliance gas stations that sell 100 on the pump if you have those near you. Its 7.50 a gallon but thats what you would need to mix 91 with in oder for your chip to respond correctly.

I filled up with a different brand (76 92 octane) and it still pings, mostly under light load when it is completley warmed-up.

I've put the stock chip in just to see the difference.

Moving back is not an option...

What Taylor said. The west Coast gets raped on gas prices, and they can't even give us the higher octane premium!

Look for gas stations that sell 100 unleaded race gas. Do a web search.

There are a few in So Cal. The closest one to me is 8 miles from my house. When I autocross I like to run 50/50 100 and 91 octane. It runs great on that mixture.

try shell or chevron. you weren't running Arco "premium" were you? :p

I saw 94 octane at a gas station in canada, but it was $1.75 a liter.. fuck. that's like $7/gallon!

I was running '76 92 Octane. I never use Arco or anything with ethanol.

I put the stock chip in and it still pings slightly under slight throttle conditions. No ping going up hills or anything like that. My next step will be a good dose of fuel injector cleaner. I almost feel like one of my cylinders is running slightly lean causing the pinging. I'll read the spark plugs if I get a chance as well.
