I have a vibrant resonator and muffler on the way and back to the exhuast shop tomorrow.

Does anyone think it matters how far back the Y is off the header? Right now mine is 2 2" pipes coming back about 20" off the header and then to the Y with a 2.5" flange. Will that be ok or should it closer to the header?

makes a HUGE difference if your Y/X/Flex and resonator is near the headers
      No more e30s for me.

idk my Y is directly after the headers, then a 6" flexpipe, then the cat and ten inches of tube, then resonator and mine is still loud as shit. im doin a e36 midsection next..

Y after ebay headers to resonator to 50 series flowmaster all 2.5". Nice, quite and throaty for everyday sane driving but really opens up when you get into it. The flowmaster is a 3 chamber design so it probably doesn't flow as well as a straight through design but I wanted something that was mellow. They say if it is too loud you are too old...but I've had my share of loud cars and I wanted this one to be a nice cruiser/dd.

Those of you complaining about the exhuast being too loud are you running the ebay headers or obd2 headers? I'm running obd2 headers connected to the obd2 downpipes then Y to a 2.5in pipe, high flow magna flow cat, out to a single in/out 2.5 18x5x8 and it was super quiet until broken in, now it rumbles but nothing like a race car

your car should be quiet unless you have a pos muffler back after that resonator. listen to the link in my sig. that is my setup simply y, resonator and 6-8" flex right after the ebay headers, then a borla at the back. its so quiet my intake makes more noise.

I'm also using a Magnaflow 14815 catback. I had the can powdercoated black so it wouldn't be ridiculously shiny under light, then I left the tips polished. Refer to my sig to get an idea of what it looks like.

                          My exhaust system.

                          eBay Supersprint copies
Short little connector pipe I had made locally
                          VSR E30M3 center pipe
                          Stromung muffler

When I first installed it, the muffler was way too quiet. After a couple hundred miles it cleared itself out. Now I'm very pleased with it.

That is such a sweet set up! What bank is your o2 sensor running in?

For now I am going to just run my exhaust through the stock muffler then upgrade later when I get a catalytic converter and ecut out.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

I have a Borla on both my e30's, and will be putting another one on when I swap the m50 in. I LOVE the sound of them.
