But if the TB boot is not there, then the MAF will not read air flow!

and the m42 uses an AFM... so...

My comment about compression was in responce to your video clips... the engine cranking is not steady, it has slow and fast spots. The engine "sounds" like it has uneven compression. However, listing to cranking (exp over the internet haha) to deteramne compression is subjective and sometimes inaccurate; so take that comment with a grain of salt!

haha dude the entire engine harness from the m42 is long gone!

the tb boot was on the throttle body along with the maf...so yeh it was most certainly hooked up.

in that video everything is hooked up :)

man it fucking sucks that the car is so far away. i swear if it doesn't start this weekend its getting towed back to my place.

its all good dude...anything helps really.

i should probably mention that the coil does give spark because i took it out and shoved a screw driver in there. there is most certainly current travelling through the coil i'm just not sure the spark plug is actually getting it.

                ..
                hfm for obd1 e36 m50 b25 or b30
                01 HOT-FILM AIR MASS METER 4-POL 1 13621747155 $438.59
should be able to pick one up (3" oem) off ebay or bimmerforums for really cheap.
or the 3.5" euro / 540, but they you will want a new chip / injectors. cheers, jason

i am actually thinking about getting the 540i maf but will get chip and injectors shortly.

do you think it will run okay with the bigger maf?

the p/n applies for b25 and b30, i checked realoem last night..

just a thought...but could the "uneven" compression sound like its trying to turn over?

thats pretty much why it didn't sound unusual to me...

ugh i can't wait to go take a look at the CPS and spark.

                        Started it today!!!!!

That dash of oil helped fire this thing up like nobody's business.

I'll have the video up shortly! It sounds pretty good to me, but I can barely tell cause this thing is so flippin loud.

It won't idle though so I need to look into why...me thinks it is the M44 318i MAF

I hope to head out to L.I. tomorrow and resolve the idle issue along with possibly mounting exhaust!

Damn its loud...but very hairy chested.

Glad its starting for you. Yeah I'd think that the hfm would be the reason for it not idling right.
