Yes, no more thermostat. I have a cone filter now, where would I have put that thing? The stock system added lots of unnecessary complexity and places for coolant to leak. Extra hoses also means less space to see and work on my engine.

As an aside, I've had an oil leak lately that's coming from my oil filter housing. I've ordered 25 of O rings for the freeze plugs and will have plenty to sell, cheap, soon!

Your wiring is incorrect. Use an etm to make your own chart. Never use the online junk. Ok, i will get off the soap box now.......

      85e - 94e36m50b25
c104p1 (Engine speed input from motronic to Tach) = x20p20 (Engine speed input from dme to Tach)

Now, i did not see your provisions for the road speed signal. x20p14. the e36m50tu needs a road speed signal or you will not get optimum performance. (search, ive talked a lot about it a long time ago.) Your 85e chassis sends a road speed signal from the cluster to the obc. cluster c3p26 (brn/red) to obc p21. However, there is not a connector that is easily tapped into.....cut the wire and patch it in.

the charcoal canister releases built up pressure in gas tank when the dme tells it to. you can just cap the line, but you will get a pressurized "hiss" every time you open the tank. (search.)

if you live in the north and want to daily drive the car, leave it intact. bmw (they really are smart engineers) uses the coolant to heat the t-body only when its cold out. system uses a thermostat (in air box) to open and close the flow of coolant to the tbody. without heating the tbody, you can (and probabily will) get frost / ice buildup on the throttle butterfly. not good. However, you do not want to just eliminate the thermostat. you will be heating the the t-body even if its not cold outside. .... we all know hot air doesnt make good power. (again, search.)

      drive on!!! cheers, jason

I have no tach function. I have:
      • c104 pin 3 needs to go to x20 pin 24
      • c104 pin 1 needs to go to x20 pin 14
      • c104 pin 2 needs to go to... nothing
      • x20 pin 20 needs to go to the wire at the green connector on the instrument cluster, for engine speed for the tach?

This is the info that I was given from this thread: http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=119147. What do all of these things specifically do? I've heard speed sensors, rpm sensors, tach sensors, etc... but I'm having trouble, even with the schematics, understanding their actual functions.

Charcoal canister. Do I need it? How can I safely delete it, or hook it up properly? There is a connector on my engine harness for a one way check valve of some sort that I don't have, and am not willing to pay $70 for. I'd rather just hook it up without that switch, or remove the canister if possible. What are the options here?

Coolant lines to the airbox. What are these for, and what should I do with them? I could just pull that thermostat (or whatever it is) from the airbox and mount it somewhere... or should I just connect the two hoses? What is this system for?

So do you use the thermostat somehow? Or do you just deal with a hot throttle body? Some people have put the thermostat in their custom intakes, but it has broken the boots etc....

OK, I finished up some more odds and ends today and ventured out on to public roads. That was fun with open headers :)

My temp gauge stayed just above the blue, so I did some research and found out I need to use the m20 sender? Can't believe I didn't read this before...

It seems like when I leave off the gas, it takes a second or two for the engine to drop RPM's. Is this normal?

Also, I noticed my oil pan drain plug was leaking, so I went to tighten it and it just spun. What do most people do, helicoil them?
