you dont have to pull the crank though. just the head, and then disonnect the #2 and push the piston/rod through the top.

haha anything at this point is going to easy for me...i've been hopeful all of this time but theres no point anymore.

im going to first inspect it from the bottom and see just how bad the damage is, maybe a bearing just needs to replaced.

i have a good feeling im going to get the big fuck you on this anyway and will end up taking the head off. i've already mastered removal of the intake manifold. that last 11mm bolt for the manifold is a royal bitch btw.

might as well master everything else then.

Maybe you already did this, but if not, pull the coil on #2 while its running just to be sure.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.

what would that do? the piston will still be moving, and the noise would still present itself...

the noise would lessen, tho, because far less force/stress will be applied to it

Who cares if its still moving, its just going along for the ride, it doesnt have thousands of psi exploding inside the combustion chamber anymore. When I spun a rod bearing in my M20, the knock went away when I took away spark to that one cylinder. But what do I know, listen to gold, he obviously knows what he's talking about.

if the knock goes away thats great...but that would still leave me with the problem and running on 5 cylinders haha

My suggestion was purely for correct diagnosis before you go tearing things apart.

you guys won't believe this...but it isn't the rod.

The rods are hitting the freaking oil pan baffle (e36)...i don't know how its possible but somehow they are.

I have the E34 baffle at home and im thinking about using that one instead because it sits a bit farther away.

I checked for play in ALL of the rods and there is no play. I'm kind of shocked and delighted.

What do you guys think? E34 baffle?

I thought you were supposed to remove this baffle when installing the e34 m50 oil pan? Thank god it wasn't a rod bearing!
