    wiring troubles.

ok. im doing an m50 swap (out of a 92 325i) and its going into my 88 325i cabrio. im using the e36s automatic trans (yes i know i hate it too but i cant afford the 5 speed yet :() my question is. there are 2 plugs on the e36 harness. (i presume one is for the trans?) i have both the e36 chassis harness as well as the 36 engine side. does anyone know how to wire the secound plug? thanks in advance guys.

    Was the E30 not a 5-speed :(?

One plug is the trans, yes.

What second plug are you talking about wiring up? You only need to wire the x20 engine-to-body connector.

He's talking about the EGS plug, which looks exactly like the X20 but has a white ring. If you had an auto E30 then it should have something to wire it too. If not, then you have a 5 spd, then you can just use that 5spd with the M50.

it is an auto e30 (which makes me so sad) to be honest i only saw one c101 plug so its a possibility i missed it. i am kinda dumb sometimes.
does anybody know what the wiring from the EGS PLUG FROM THE 36 TO THE 30? (stupid caps lock)

I havent seen any threads about this so thats why i ask.

It's a rare combo. I think I've heard of one or two E30s with E36 automatic transmissions swapped in, so the knowledge out there is sparse.

Given the little bit of info out there on swapping an auto trans from an E36 into an E30, I'd say hit the junkyard hard and pull a transmission and driveshaft. Piece together a good clutch/flywheel and such. You wont have to deal with the wiring hassle and you'll have a proper transmission. I've picked up complete trans swaps from the junkyard for $50 before.

Sorry that I have nothing to give here as far as updating from the E30 trans to the E36.

Basically my check engine light doesn't come on, not even in the start position, the thing is i don't know if it ever used to come on, i swapped motors as soon as i got the car. I'm thinking maybe my wiring adapter doesn't include check engine light? it's the AKG one. Basically could my check engine light thing be dead in the cluster or is that not likely to be it? what should i check for? thanks.

Just go with a 5spd, it won't be THAT much more money, it will save you time and effort.

Auto E30s don't have any transmission electronics (except for the "sport" package ones which are rare), there is nothing body-side to hook that up to. you'd need everything from the E36.
