Fantastic input. I think for my first go on the short track I will go all out. Then later I can shoot for the 150 or 130 club. I have searched and searched but can not find a land speed record for a na 6 cylinder e30.

Please read the situation where he's running the 130 mph in. Its on salt grounds and WITHIN a single mile where traction is obviously a bigger issue than regular grounds. Any car with a given amount of area and unlimited time can go 130. This is totally different from what he is trying to accomplish in this thread.

I say 3.25 lsd with a ZF should be enough grunt to get you to 130 within a mile. I personally would go with the 2.93lsd. Longer gears, and better usage of the power band.

Word. I'm glad that someone actually read something here...

And FYI, I'm usually an ass because I'm right and getting arguments from clueless n00bs. Or if I've had a bad day and gotten a lot of stupid questions from customers at the shop all day, then I'm inclined to be an ass too. or if I fucking feel like it...

getting to 130 within a mile is possible. but up at that speeds you really run into the poor aerodynamics of the car.

i ran my late model m52swapped car up to 125 once. i had the stock IS spoiler on the front and a tech1 rear spoiler. at that speed it felt like i ran into a wall. VanWesterfelt on here is running a built s50 and hes ran 130+ in his car (running with a 911) and he had the same issue, but he has the is front with a splitter and nothing on the rear.

hate to see you pull one of these:

really? I can do 130 with my M20 fairly easily, it's hard to imagine an S50 having trouble going much faster. I can verify it with a datalog and RPM measurements too.

My coworker did just over 140 in his Spec E30 at a road course (yes, that was on the speedo, so probably actually 130ish).

Just saying, a standard E30 will do 130.

A friend's S50 swap car did 145 easy. Scared him seeing how inadequate the brakes were coming down from that speed quickly though.

I don't know about a standing mile (I was at ~90mph in the 1/4 mile), I was more referring to the posts that a modified S50 E30 runs out of steam at around 130mph. I just find that hard to believe.

oh no no no. it will do 130 no problem. it just doesnt feel safe going that fast, aerodynamically. according to the owner of that particular car.
