    value of a m54 motor

So I have come across a motor m54 3.0l with ZHP cams in it was thinking about swapping it into the E30 but was wondering if it would sell.

This is just a motor no a/c, alt or pwrstr. no exhaust, throttlebody or DME.

    Has intake,injectors and motor wiring.

What is the market for these motors. and if it worth trying to sell it.

Probably worth it to somebody who overheated their 330i, I'd sell it and not bother with swapping it. Just my opinion.

It is probably worth more parted out

        1. ZHP cams $400 easy
        2. 3.0L rotating assembly $500 easy
        3. vanos unit $80
        4. bare block $100
        5. cylinder head(no cams) $300
        6. valve cover $50
        7. intake manifold $50
        plus other parts

so you are at $1480, easy. With that money you can buy nice M50 with everything you need for a swap.

Depending on the miles a ZHP motor is worth $1500-$2000.

I would make a great swap!

Wasn't saying you shouldn't swap at all, just saying you shouldn't swap the M54. :D I'm sure others in this subforum would disagree, but the M50/S50/M52/S52 route is much easier.

M54 is a more advanced and smoother running engine due to double vanos and can-bus electronics; the brain is more advanced.

M54 runs smoother than the original s52b32 dme in my 98 m3 although some sensors are shared. I have a m54 in my e46; its a really smooth nice engine.

the e30 I race has a m50 but if a m54 could have gone into the e30......I'd prefer the m54 all day

yeah, what? the M54 is a better overall motor than the earlier versions. other than the S5x, it'll stomp all over any M50, plus it's significantly lighter.

Just because the electronics are more advanced? OBDII swaps are becoming more common.

My favorite use of an M54 would be Paul's 2002.
