    Kassel S54 Airbox

Has anyone tried this with their swap? I am still racking my brain figuring out what I want to do with my brake booster. I dont want to go boosterless.

This looks like a good solution to fit a 944 booster, I am wondering if the 325ix booster will fit with this one as well.

The S54 airbox will not fit in the E30 engine bay with the stock brake booster. Kassel Performance recommends using a Porsche 944 brake booster for a stock-like pedal feel coupled with ease of installation. The S54 air plenum will still need to be modified in order to clear the brake booster. Currently, we do […]

Use the booster from a 2002
I had an ix booster. My airbox is unmodified but I doubt it would fit as their modification doesn't look all that extreme

I heard the booster from a 2002 doesn't work that great. Can't seem to find many people on here that used one.

I will look into it more.

If you can move the booster position 1inch diagonally the 944 booster will work, this is how I did mine. Might not be as easy with LHD.

Kassel is one man operation, his name is Jim Herrold, he is known to order parts then make a copy and call it his own. He bought swap harness from Andrew, made copies and now selling them like his own brand. http://jimherrold.com/

Currently, we do not stock any cores but will be doing so in the near future. Please send your intake manifold to us upon checking out and allow 3-4 business days for modification.
Very unprofessional, so what if there is a mistake during modification, there are no cores to supplement the customer. And it looks like cylinder #6 will get restricted air flow.

I think you may have heard the 320i booster doesn't work very well. That seems to be the one people say they don't like, but it has mixed reviews. You won't find much info on the 2002 booster here- they are not particularly easy to find, and there is confusion on which one is the correct version. PM jink0619 as that is what he uses, or give me a couple weeks and I'll tell you how it feels. It's all relative to how the rest of your brakes are set up. If you have tiny worn out stock brakes and a smaller booster you probably won't like it. If you run e46 m3 front/e34 rears, you will more than likely find it ok with a 2002 etc booster.

Cool please let me know. I am actually running E46 M3 brakes front and rear.

Looks like it will airflow restrict cyl 6. Not the smartest approach.

Thanks I have decided against it from the feedback I have been given.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't modify the airbox. BMW spent mega money in R&D designing that. I'd go hydro boost or boosterless, unless you can fit a smaller vacuum booster by moving the pedal over like frantic recommended. You could also look into a remote mounted booster like these: http://www.mpbrakes.com/techtalk/boo...e-compartments
Plug and Play Wiring Harness Adapters for S54, S50, M54 and more.

Thanks Andrew, definitely do not want to go boosterless. I want this car to drive like a normal street car with greatly upgraded performance.

Coming from the guy that was selling ESS tunes years ago and probably copied their s54 dme hack, you really have no place to talk.

As for the airbox mod, we did plenty in a similar fashion at Castro Motorsport with no ill effects. If you inspect the rear section cut out, there are a bunch of thick plastic grooves and very little surface area for air flow.

Castros has about 10 swaps running around with no problems, I had the same on my M3 swap and made the same power as e46 m3s with the same mods.

R3V is so funny. Everyone thinks they know what they're talking about when it comes to theory, until someone tries it and proves everyone wrong.

I moved the booster over to the right 1.25" and modified the airbox to fit snug against it with a similar mod to Kassel. I was running an iX booster, which is the best brake booster you can run in the e30 chassis.

Nope, cut the box and see for yourself.

E30polak you clearly don't know anything about 'air box airflow harmonic resonance'. BMW did not make that part big and bulky for no reason. Just because your hack job shop Castro motorsports did not see any loss in peak power does not mean that moding the air box does not have any ill effects.

Hack job shop eh? Pretty well respected for the work they do. You're just mad that I called you out on copying other people's work. You're almost as bad as Kassel, and everyone knows it. At least he created a decent business out of it, unlike you. Also, your n55 e36 was a total hack job, so let's not get started on quality of work here- Mr. HakenTT

Unless the motor is seeing boost, there is no ill effect as one of the swap cars has almost 30k miles on it now and is tracked regularly. Not just peak power, but normal driveability was tested as well. Unless you've actually cut the box and inspected it yourself, you have ZERO place to talk.
