Do you guys have a lot of drivetrain slop?

I've always had it in this iX, and I vaguely remember having it in the old iX i had prior to my current one.

I've replaced almost every suspension bushing including control arm bushings, new engine mounts, guibo is fine.....not sure if there's anything else i should be looking for. Tranny mount possibly?

In slow traffic if i'm in 1st or 2nd gear, and i let off the throttle, the car buckles a lot (no its not due to bad shifting lol). I wonder if this is what caused the splines on my front driveshaft to wear from it shifting a lot.

    Any ideas?

i didnt, but the slop is easily felt up front. The front suspension is super tight, everything is new (tie rods, rebuilt axles, sway links, struts, springs & control arm bushings are all new)....not a squeak.

Just when i let off the throttle, i can almost visualize the drivetrain shift front/back.

Wouldn't i hear a clunking noise in the rear if my subframe bushings were bad?

yeah it's the diff, i've pretty much replaced everything you can replace in the driveline/suspension except for the tranny/diff. I have a little bit of that diff knock and other higher mileage e30s i've driven are even worse. The diff internals need to be re-adjusted but nobody does this because it's expensive. Best to try to swap in a lower mileage diff but you mind end up with a worse one. Mine is an lsd with like 127k miles so I'm not bothering.

my car has only 115K, and the diffs are 4.10s since it was auto before the 5-speed swap. hmm i wonder if thats what it is.

I have a ton- 88iX 250k on the clock. I mean excessive drivetrain slack.

I really think it's just a ring gear backlash adjustment in the diff. I'm currently dealing with body issues so I've sorta shrugged it off.

Has anyone here looked into getting new ring and pinion to an iX. Are they still available? Pricey?

thats probably not feasible. in addition to the price of the parts, you are looking at at least that amount again for getting it set up properly. it can be done at home but it is trickey and will take a bit of trial and error getting the shims right.

i say just find a tight diff used and call it a day. you are only looking at like 300.00 or less not including shipping.

getting new parts installed will likely set you back about 2 grand.

I can't see why you'd need to replace them, unless there was a catastrophic failure. you can just reset all the clearances and have it work like new again.

Is any of this slop related to the transfer case mount? Would there be any benefit to having a poly mount made for the t case?

Also check your throttle position switch adjustment. It can cause "bucking"
