the BMW motorcycle stuff isn't just similar, it's the same thing. I've never seen a BMW Motorcycle dealer though.

op, not sure if you have this sorted out yet, but there is a bmw motorcycle dealer about 15 mins away from me. if you still need the lube, i could get it for you. just cover the cost and shipping and ill cover the leg work..

Is Molykote 55 the same sort of stuff as the "moly" people mention?

I use BR2 plus, I don't know if there's a motorcycle dealer even 100 miles from here. they're both similar.

Here's a link to buy Molykote BR-2 Plus multi purpose grease. I've read that this will work just fine, and it's used on airplane output shafts...and I'd say if it's good for a single engine airplane, it's good for your bimmer. And honestly...I think some Mobil 1 synthetic grease would work, too. We put it on transmission output shafts for the same purpose, to prevent corrosion on the splines and to lubricate. I would use the Mobil 1 syntho on my drive shaft splines and half shafts, too. Just my opinion.

I know I need to do the front drive shaft...
it's not really neccesary. if you wanted, you could pop off the axle nuts, push the shafts part way in, and stick some anti-seize in there.

they won't get destroyed like the front shaft will without lube, but there's a chance they could get stuck together with rust.
