My new IX - New Member

Bought this on eBay from Cincinatti, flying out and then driving it back to San Francisco

    Plans:
Put on tasteful 16x7.5 ET38 wheels with 215/45/R16 Tires
    Put on classy trunk spoiler
Give it a Dinan Performance Chip

Drive to Spokane in the winter, Drive to Idaho for Christmas and enjoy the AWD suited roads that my 2012 Merc C350 Coupe can't do :)

Already found tons of info on here glad this community exists! Cheers

That's nearly a stock width and offset. I can't imagine that rubbing. Maybe Nando can chime in for another opinion.

nah, a 215 on a 7.5" wheel and ET38 is actually pretty conservative.

                I have 225s on a 7.5" ET36 wheel, ET33 effectively (3mm spacers for brake clearance).

I was under the impression the IX's had issues running different size tires/wheels similar to a Subaru. Is there a reason in the picture the front wheels/tires don't match the rear? Wouldn't this cause issues with the differentials.

only if they're different diameters. it's hard to tell in the pic, but that's a good point. hopefully the difference isn't greater than 1-2%.

After years of subaru's my personal opinion was never to have tires that differed by more than 2-3/32 in tread depth (as well has different sizes but that goes without saying.) Would this hold true for the IX models as well?

                        Sorry for the thread hijack.

I don't know what the exact tread depth is but there's a tech document from BMW somewhere, I recall 1-2% as being the max difference the VC could absorb long term without damage.

                            Good to know. Thanks.

Congrats on the new car OP! I was so close to picking up an almost identical ix. Hope the drive back goes well.
