    stock ix wheels

    from this:

    to this:

I paid $100 for the wheels. refinishing was $500. :D

getting some 13mm spacers so the caps will clear my studs, new center emblems, then new 195/60-15 blizzaks from Costco with a $70 off coupon. :)

wish I had more pics of the "before". the rash was awful, they had to have been on a girls car. one of the lips was bent inward (from being curbed so many times, I guess) but they were all pretty straight. still can't believe I found them, locally, laying in the dirt for $100 including the caps..

euroweaves were my summer wheels, sold those a couple years ago. I got tired of cleaning them, plus they were just painted. These are powdercoated and should hold up much better.

I'd been running bottlecaps for the last 8 winters, they're sooooo fugly! I'm just happy to never have them on my E30 again..

        Looks great!

Wheels are going to look much better than bottle caps. Looking good for the winter!
        Hope mine look that good:).

Nice!! How do you plan on keeping them clean and preserving the coating? They look so good!

Nice finish! You spent some coin.

I didn't think it was that bad, I could easily resell them for what I've put into them. $600 doesn't buy you a very nice set of wheels, either.

                      Costco customer service SUUUUUCKS.

they told me 2 hours. it's been over 3 and they haven't even touched the wheels. also, they talk to every customer like they're morons (okay, so half of them are, big deal) and are generally rude.

First I asked for 195/60R15. They don't make a 205/55R15 or I'd have gone with them. He asks me if that's what I have now of if it's what's on my door sticker. I said neither. He says he'll have to see the door sticker (because every customer must be stupid, and can't buy a tire in a size they wanted). He sees the car and makes a comment that it must rub when I turn (it doesn't). Then he sees my wheel studs and says they'd have to swap them out for stock ones (yeah, no, I'm just dropping wheels off thanks). I already knew that though, been down that road before with Costco (had to drive all the way home, swap wheels, then bring the wheels to have new tires mounted seperately).

he also made a remark that the wheels don't have a load rating stamped on them. Uh, yeah. they're 25 years old. They say Made in W. GERMANY on them. that should have been a clue..

I asked them not to use the lip-mounted weights; yes I realize they balance better, but it's my choice. He looked at me like I was an idiot and went off to "check". They also got the car model wrong (I guess I still have my friend's old 318is in their system), not a big deal but the pressures are slightly lower on a 318 vs an ix. I told him that the pressures needed to be higher than what it said on my sheet and he just blew me off.

I should have learned the last 3 times I've been there and the service was awful every single time. Last time 3 of 4 wheels were out of balance, one of the weights fell off, and I had to make a scene to get my money back for installation. Next time, I'll take the tires with me and pay the extra $75 to install them elsewhere. Les Schwab will do it in 20 minutes, and they also don't pitch a shit fit over my 75mm studs, having loose wheels, or any other nonsense.

if they scratch the wheels i'll be PISSED, but it's my own fault for taking them there in the first place. fool me 4 times and I guess I finally learn..

One of our local forums has a sponsor who sells tires, it ends up being much cheaper than anywhere else locally, but the biggest bonus is that you get to stand there and chat/make sure everything is done exactly how you wanted. Definitely worth it.

yep, been there with tires and wheels

Chris: They do seem to think that we are stupid and have to be held by the hand. They want to go by the book, or you get 'the look' from them. I like to just take mine to a shop that does what I want and has some idea of what autox cars are and non-standard systems are going to need.
On a positive note; they are going to look great!

yeah, the shop here in town has no problems with modified stuff. the thing is, they never even touched my car and still pitched a fit. lol

anyway, the tires got mounted, 3 hours later than what they said (meaning, all the people in line behind me, got theirs installed before me). some of the clearcoat on the lips got rubbed off a little but not much.

i wanted to wait for the rest of the centercaps and spacers to mount them, but we're supposed to have torrential rain all week this week. the R888s are actually great in the rain, but I don't want to push my luck into the end of November..

mounted without the spacers and caps for now:

was going to wait, but it started raining and I'd like to clean the summer wheels before putting them away, it's easier when things are dry.
