Been busy with life while the e30 sits in the driveway waiting to start the headgasket and head freshening.
With today's snow, work was called off, so I pulled the ol' girl in the garage and started the tear down.

Got about 2 hours in today. Everything was pretty straight forward no surprises, no broken nuts or bolts.
I don't think it will take more than an hour to get the head off. Maybe I'll get an hour or so one day this week after work.
No time this weekend I'm of to NYC for 4 or 5 days.

    A few pics.

Internals seem pretty clean, over all not bad for 164k miles

    Intake ports are surprisingly clean

Looks like the general engine bay will clean up nicely.
I just went through this last year on my old 635. Still have a few parts to order.
My machine shop usually turns around a head rebuild in a day or two.

Finally had a good day with motivation in the garage this weekend. I pulled the head off and will hopefully drop it off at the machine shop for a rebuild.

      Everything looks great

      As it came off, untouched.

I still need to order a few nick naks, oil return tube seals, injector O Rings, a couple cooling hoses.
I am going to try and do the motor mounts this week.

Finally got a little time and motivation to work on the ix.
Gonna spend the day cleaning the engine compartment and preparing the block.

The head has been off for at least month just sitting in the trunk. Hopefully I can drop it off at the machine shop this week for a rebuild. I'm gonna have them clean up the intake manifold, valve cover and a few other things to.

I think I have all the parts here to complete the job. 3 boxes worth of orders between BMA and ECS.

Yes, as much as I hated to do it, I ordered a few Uro cooling hoses. I don't want to overspend on this one.

I got the motor mounts installed, and refinished the valve cover.

I have once again found motivation and time to get some work done on the old 325ix.
New radiator, I went with Nissens. I've had better luck with them than the Behr over the years.

Old radiator and amazingly its the the original.

New Radiator installed with new fan switch and water pump.

Head is back from the machine shop. Had it pressure tested, cleaned, decked, and assembled with 6 new exhaust guides. Also had the rockers polished.

All parts that were removed have been cleaned are ready for reassembly. Don't mind some of the old hoses. All are being replaced with new.

Cam Cover, intake manifold and thermostat housing have been cleaned and refinished. Cam cover and intake done in black wrinkle.

Block deck has been cleaned and the threads cleaned and chased.

Hopefully I will have enough time this weekend to get the head on and most things assembled. Plan is to have it driving again in 2 weeks or so. We'll see if I can keep the mojo going....

Got the head on and torqued down using a torque wrenh and torque angle gauge.
Also got the exhaust buttoned up.

We'll see if how motivated I'll feel in the morning.

I managed to get pretty far today. I have maybe 45 minutes before I can turn the key. I just have to finish coolant lines.
I wish I could have kept going but, I have a bad back and it's gonna be killing me for the next couple days.

Thanks, have fun it's an easy job.

After driving for the last couple days, seems I'm going to have to replace the C191 connector.
I've taken it apart and gave it a good cleaning and I still have some intermittent electrical problems.
CTS code and occasionally running on 3 cylinders.

Right now the connections are good and it runs perfect with CEL. But I wouldn't want to go any further than the corner store.

Also, charged the AC and its good and cold but the aux fan needs a new resistor which should ship Monday from BMW.
I don't see why people buy the cheaper aftermarket resistor, the factory part is $21.

Yesterday I drained the ATF and installed a new filter.
