    Honestly - I think $8000 is high..

Anecdotal evidence suggest that the main market for E30's is more lower income, teens, lower 20s, college aged.. (not everybody - just a generalization of who is buying these)

Im not in the main market and I am "reviving" my youth with the cars I had on my wall.. There are quite a few of us out there (enthusiasts) - but not enough demand to move the prices upward. True, the 325ix is special, but there still aren't enough enthusiasts that just want that vehicle (no substitutes). It's rare - but not that rare.. Which is a testament to the reliability - try finding a 80's grand am that isn’t rusted or blown..

When I bought my son's car, I was looking for something reliable and seasonal and it landed in my lap. It sat on a dealers lot for 6 months and l offered him $2000 lower than his asking price.. He was happy to get rid of it.. A lot of these sit, and a lot of these scare off regular buyers.

I have thought about flipping these - but there really is no market arbitrage availability in general E30s. Even if I were lucky to find one for a $1000 - A person usually has to drop another grand (timing belt, suspension, other little things) just to get $3000 out of it.. A lotta work for a profit potential of $1000

The M3 (and Specialty models) seem to be where the money is and honestly if you can locate fair to good models under $20K - you can make $5-10 grand fairly quickly..

blue book value on a car this old means absolutely nothing.

I need to put mine on classic insurance, but I'm not going to drive it anytime soon anyway.

Does blue book even cover cars older than about 15 years or so?

When mine was rear-ended last summer it was valued by insurance (State Farm) at ~$7-8K IIRC. Not too bad for a 25 year old car with 190K on it at the time. The body shop folks told me that my keeping it sorted and generally clean contributed to that assessment by the local adjuster a fair bit. Probably the only reason it wasn't totaled because the repair bill was ~4.5K.

I should clarify and say that I wouldn't expect to make that kind of money in a sale, especially if I had to get rid of it quickly. I was only suggesting what somebody else thought it might be worth, since we have precious little to go on it seems.

Well I got my two ix cars for 1300 for both of them but in my black car I'll have about a other 1500, 3k if I have the body work done to it. And I paid 1k for my black car. Almost no rust. The previous owner ran into something so the front driver corner has new panels.

My white car I got for 300 but just to get it back to stock I'd have over 5k invested in it. I've had to hunt down quite a few parts for it and I am also turning the car into a near perfect h27sp. I will have invested over 25k in it, Hartge parts cost a fuck tone, a car like my white car I'd never sell but if I sold it I'd ask tops like 27k but that's because the whole car would be practically new only 130k on the body.

The most I'd pay for a nice ix about a 8/10 would be about 5k maybe a 10/10 aka show room maybe 10k. In the end it's all about desirability in your area.

I have been asked by quite a few East coast guys if I'd sell my black car in its current state I've Ben offered 3k and it's far from perfect but 0 rust.

They are all over the place- only regarding condition. This was nice and had some...

This example was very recent and had some critical work done to it at 180,*** miles. Timing components, and tune up. Also was entirely repainted and replaced seats which are not cheap! The color I think was a good choice- even though I prefer the classic red as shown above in 5 speed manual. That went for 10,500 in metallic grey. I can't post the picture up right now for whatever reason but it's in the sold listings and I watched it go. There is currently an Ix on eBay around 400 dollars with 4 or 5 days left- I believe the only one on the site. That would be the entirely opposite side of the spectrum with multiple cracks in dash no carpet dents scrapes in panels minor rust, torn seats bad odometer- u know the typical 25 yr old e3o stuff!

And no- if you need help there are classic buying guides. Kelly blue book doesn't do very well in general for collector cars and even more so one that is rare. They stop at like 1992 and that's because the deprecation value is over and then it starts going the other way. It's mostly analytics that are scewed through previous purchases and history- even if your buying a common Toyota Camry from the 90s with normal miles the kbb values hardly reflect the value that a person would assume for buying a car or selling their own. Typically it's a let down for the seller and I think most find that a car with zero problems running good with cheep insurance is more than kbb's value of 800 for a 2001 Mitsubishi galant (cars that literally just keep driving despite ignoring maintenance to a degree) or 1500 for a Toyota camry. If someone goes by a kbb value most people I know who sell their car don't follow it and express this heavily and people buying cars use it to lower prices.

                        I x values

Hey thought I'd come back to add, I was looking for an Ix and they must sell fast on craigslist because they always sell and or flagged erased before I can go see. I finally got a red one. I mean prices seem way higher than the estimates here. Everywhere I go says the values are steadily rising.

                          Diamond white pearl

This white went for 12 + missed the auction end. (I came back to edit this) I do not like the image that showed up as much as alpine white cars- the image above is a wrapped car and not the auction car that was meant to be posted. I personally like the halos on darker paints maroon and dark blue.

that blue $4000 one looks like a very solid deal. automatic transfercases are less than $500.
