unplug your DME for 5 minutes to reset the adaptations.

I doubt you have a clogged cat. I've only ever seen one of those in my life.. and it was a POS VW.

I clogged a cat on a Festiva once... But we had bought the car for $20 and subsequently cut the roof off and used it as a bowling ball into pins of empty 55gal drums.

For what it's worth, there's a DIY somewhere to make a Ford F150 o2 sensor fit and they're around $45 at autozone. Just have to change the wiring for your o2 connector.

i saw plugged cats all the time in the rx8 world, but rx8 EGT can run 1800 degrees, with 2000 degrees being in the realm of possibility. e30s dont run anywhere near that hot. so i doubt a clogged cat as well.

95% highway with my ix (i moved) now, i get 24-26mpg. 24, windows down, 80-85mph. 26, windows up, 75mph, trying to keep it easy on the throttle. and my bottom end has ~370k miles, i havent checked compression, but i doubt it's that great. worked head though. 17.5lb injectors.

o2 sensor. afm cleaned? can you swap dmes with someone?

I read many threads about cleaning afm's and it doesn't look like something i really wanna mess with to be honest. I have a spare AFM that i might try swapping out, but that one came out of a high mileage iX, in comparison to mine which only has 128K. I still have yet to unplug the DME that nando suggested, but might try swapping as well if that doesn't work.

fyi, my last fillup (with the A/C on full crank all week...blower motor is only working on highest setting and it was hot as balls in NY this week).....i only got 8.3 mpg! :curse:

                  Something is seriously wrong here.

do you have a fuel leak or something? plugged fuel return line? with it being that rich, it would have to be billowing black, stinky smoke..

i don't see any signs (smell) of any fuel leak, but not sure what exactly i should be looking for. I would expect a strong odor of fuel when parked if i was leaking, but I'm not. My exhaust tips do have black soot which i only notice between car washes, but not exactly billowing.

My 6000 lb land cruiser with a big ass rack gets 12mpg. You sir, have a problem.
My 88ix gets about 22 driving up and down the canyon everyday.

UPDATE: So i reset the DME yesterday, and drove it to work today. Then it dawned on me when I looked at the trip computer. I think part (or all) of my issue is cluster related! Between fillups, I log the mileage from that tank, and divide it by the # of gallons I fill up with > to calculate my mpg. My trip computer indicates I've only driven 67miles since my last fill up (Sunday night)....but the distance of my commute, it should've read somewhere in the neighborhood of 185-190miles....with still 1/3 of a tank left as of just now.

The odd thing is the cluster mileage moves, but probably slowly dying. I do remember once that the cluster mileage froze for a bit sometime last yr, but then worked shortly after. I'll keep a record of my 'actual' mileage and see what I'm really getting. Maybe there's an app for that? lol
