I used to commute 1 hour each way and on the expressway doing 65/70 I was at 19/20 mpg.if a took the highway doing 55/60 I would get 23/24 mpg.over 20+ years and 3 different ix's the average was pretty close according the obc's

i calculated the different in mpg with my roof rack on my e30 a couple years ago... was 2mpg worse with the fairing and 1mpg worst with just the bars+bike attachments. this is of course highway mpg, and city mpg it wouldnt make a spit of difference.

what does the OBC say? if the injectors are stock it's quite accurate. that's assuming the cluster is bad and not the diff sensor of course.. it still needs VSS to function.
i don't have an OBC read out for mpg....just the standard clock/date/outside temp Was on my list of 'upgrades' but never got around to it.

UPDATE: So i reset the DME yesterday, and drove it to work today. Then it dawned on me when I looked at the trip computer. I think part (or all) of my issue is cluster related! Between fillups, I log the mileage from that tank, and divide it by the # of gallons I fill up with > to calculate my mpg. My trip computer indicates I've only driven 67miles since my last fill up (Sunday night)....but the distance of my commute, it should've read somewhere in the neighborhood of 185-190miles....with still 1/3 of a tank left as of just now.

The odd thing is the cluster mileage moves, but probably slowly dying. I do remember once that the cluster mileage froze for a bit sometime last yr, but then worked shortly after. I'll keep a record of my 'actual' mileage and see what I'm really getting. Maybe there's an app for that? lol
