    Flare removal

Ive done quite a bit of searching but havent had any luck with this, so i have to ask and see what you guy know.

im looking to remove the factory fender flares, and do my own body work on widened fenders by pulling the arches a bit, so i may be able to fit wider tires, and lower offset rims. im painting the car over completely as well so i was just wondering if anyone else has removed the flares to make it look like a regular RWD.. i do have the idea of doing some type of aftermarket rear valence, and sideskirt. but the front end will simply be an IS lip with a ryan G splitter (that is already on)......

any input on this? anyone been down this road and run into any major differences? thank you in advance.

why? you can fit 235s under stock fenders. how big of a tire do you want? just so you can run a low offset? what's the point in that?

anyway, you'll have a lot of work to do - hole filling, for one. it'd make more sense to replace the front fenders, but that won't help the rear, or the sides, you'll have to weld and grind. then you'll have a car that just looks like any other E30 after all the effort.. I don't get it.

nomansland did this recently on his iX. removed flares, and filled holes.

I have thought that too, but then there would not be anything to regonize it is an ix. I'm wondering, if i would just wider the fender flares, keeping the ix look..

thanks for the love audiquattrot :)

Filling the holes was pretty easy just take your time and keep the welds low so you can sand and get is smooth with filler. The fenders has easy access to the back to paint them but that's not so easy with the rear quarters. You absolutely need to get some kind of protection on the welds because they will rust by the edge where its the thinnest.

If your confident with you skill you can make you own arches, This would take a lot of work and a lot of skill to make them all even, stretching the arches to much will just cause them to distort and so rolling them would be safest and your not going to gain much.

I have et35 with 215s on my ix, they fit great in the front, the rears could use a 10-15mm spacer. I've seen et20's on a ix and they looked completely flush.

          hope this helps some

Can you somehow bang out the fenders and keep the factory flares on top?

Yes, you can. Did that back in 2005.

Remove them to fit a 215? Why? Those will fit unrolled stock fenders.

Ive run et35 wheels with 225 tires and 10mm spacers and had just a bit of rub in the rear. Now I don't have spacers and it works great.

what would ix look with bodykit like TRA Kyoto?

It remains the original shape, but it's just a little bit wider.. hmmn...

And I don't really care about M3 fenders..

Yes, i intend on running much wider tires, with different offset availability, plus i want to be able to have the option of putting different skirts, and changing the look quite a bit. i do like an ix in its original form, but im trying to get a closer match to my other car.
