    3.64 front

So I may have just picked this up....

    ;)

I figure there can only be so many and they will stop popping up on ebay.de.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

lucky ,just drove the IX in the snow yesterday first time in awhile and it reminded me how much it needs 3.64 gearing (first gear is useless)

I'd like a 3.64 also... I have a 3.64 VC rear set up with the E36 rear cover. I had to modify the VC LSD VSS trigger wheel to fit because the E36 wheel doesn't fit the VC diff.

there are probably thousands of them, all early ix's had them.

now you need a matching 3.64 with a working VC.. I'll bet that's even harder to find!

I wish my PO kept the rear 3.64, he must have binned it or something, the car did come with the front 3.64 at least.

I got it as a spare for my euro. Who knows, may want to try to reinforce it someday like mw044's turbo ix...

A cooling system for the front diff would be wicked cool. And does the rear need to have a vc? I've heard you could use a LS...

heat isn't really an issue, the components are just too small.

but really, unless you're drag racing and pushing 500hp you don't need to think about it that hard.

I'm really interested in the 3.38 e34 internals myself, would be nice.

pretty sure they don't fit in the E30 housing, also the E30 CV shafts won't work because E34 are larger diameter.

guaranteed they won't fit. unfortunately, all those parts are related. you will need perhaps 7 or 8 items plus a 3.38 rear diff to make that stuff work

                      axles, oil pan, etc.....

You'd need to do a 24V swap PLUS install a 3.38 rear to make use of the E34 front diff.

                          There is a Z3 Torsen 3.64 option.

Just saying the 3.38 can be had from some e36 M3s. I thought that was common knowledge.

I was under the impression after reading chris' thread that the 3.38 did fit, and it was just the 3.23 that didn't, but this just means less messing around with what I have.

So I just bought a 3.64 R&P from Wangan to match the rear diff to the front 3.64 I have, so I'll be joining you in 3.64 land soon.

No, it only fits the e34 pan. Nothing is compatible with the e30 ix front diff.
