Transfer case front output seal question

Does anyone know if the front output shaft seal – in the transfer case, that goes to the driveshaft in the front axles, can be replaced with the transfer case in the car? Or does it need the case need to be removed?

Did it on mine in car ,and there's two seals (first is in backwards with tension spring removed, its a dust seal )just monitor depth carefully before removing old ones and wrap shaft with tape so as not to damage new seals upon install

Thanks for the quick response guys. Glad I can do it in the car, any special tricks or special tool that I should know about?

It might be a little tricky just because you do not have as much space with tools under there. Be careful not to gouge the case housing pulling the old seals.

As far as tools go, a strong hook without a sharp tip works.
