90 iX 5 speed manual swap

Does anyone know a good link to a DIY 325ix 5 speed manual swap (stock m20b25)? Also a parts list?

Search for a normal e30 automatic to manual swap. The only thing you need to add extra is a manual transmission transfercase.

So I could get a 5 speed from a 325i and attach to a manual transfercase? Just making sure, i havent been into e30s for very long

i mean obviously i would need other parts as well, pp, flywheel, clutch, linkage, but as far as the manual transmissions go they are all the same and will all fit the transfercase?

No you need a 325ix trans or a 325ix rear housing but that's more work..

minus the driveshafts, they are the same on auto/manual ix's.

and no, you definitely cannot use a RWD transmission unless you've got a spare rear case from an ix and know how to rebuild it yourself.

I still regret not doing my shifter bushings when I did the swap.

Dude, I replaced everything except the shifter carrier bushings when I did my clutch. I didn't think I had them. But I did. Not only did I have them, I had 2. 1 oem and 1 delrin set.

That was dumb. We all do dumb things. Lol.

Edit: also, immediately after I finished the clutch, I ordered a set of delrin bushings. Now I have 2 delrin sets.

Did you leave everything apart or did you just put it back together? Since it wasn't my garage, I just kept going. I'm hoping that all I'll have to do is unbolt the exhaust and driveshaft and then snake my arm up there. Haha... -_-

is the forward output shaft the same as well or is there a manual variant?

Just so i have as much clarity as possible, i couldnt mount a manual tcase to a g260 from a 325i and then mount install the ix shaft?

Correct me if I'm wrong but a manual IX has 3.91 diff's and a auto has 4.10's just another thing to be aware of.

That's correct. The IX manual transmission has a unique rear housing.

Also correct. With the small difference in ratios (3.91 > 4.10), I've seen most folks just leave the 4.10's in place. Makes the car a bit quicker off the line, but more rev's at highway speed.

how much effort/cost goes into adding the rear housing to 325i trans?
