The best swap guide on the internet is here http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=108141
This is listed step by step the only difference is the extra driveshaft and transfer case. And I believe the IX driveshaft needs to be adjusted before reinstalling, it should be telescoping. Make sure you get IX specific parts when needed.
I spend 90% of my money and women, cars, and booze. The other 10% is wasted.

the driveshaft does not need adjusted. the length from the output shaft on the transfer case to the diff is the same on automatics and manuals. However, telescoping the shaft does make it easier to drop the transmission without removing the driveshaft from the diff..

          1991 E30 5Speed Swap

My son and I are in need of swapping out a burnt out automatic transmission on a 1991 e30.

Any ideas, links and sources we can start our research?

For another automatic transmission or for a manual transmission?

What problems would I run into during the manual swap if I have airbags?

90 iX 5 speed manual swap

Sweet! So the pedal box I acquired from a manual ix will work. I'm relieved because I was reading threads on the swap and saw 'non-airbag' blah blah blah. [emoji3]

                  Thanks Nando

Dont swap the whole pedal box. You only need to swap the pedals. Airbag auto/manual pedal boxes are the same.
