alright so I bought 32131137413 from BMW. They said there is only one left in the country and it is in a PA warehouse. I should have it Friday and hopefully it matches. -
the only viable option is the E46 XI rack, but it's not exactly bolt-on.Leave a comment:

I really wish that someone had figured out a quicker ratio rack. This 20 turn lock to lock thing is terrible.Leave a comment:

I contacted a couple companies that sell reman units but they cant get the pipe.
I found this image

and the part numbers are in the page below
http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/s...ssembly=255080
and it looks like the part number I need is 32131137413. I contacted Turner and I was told it is special order so nobody can visually verify that it is the pipe I need.Leave a comment:

I appreciate your offer. That is a super nice tool. Sure beats the hand crank one by like 30 times. We have that one and I've used it about 3 times. Can't help with a replacement pipe, but if you want to send me the old one when you have it off I could make you a replacement - I have one of those nice (aka expensive) MasterCool hydraulic flaring tools that I'm trying to justify the cost of.
Don't want any money other than shipping and tube cost (unless you have a length you can send).Leave a comment:

So I had some time today with my dad so we put the car on ramps to pull the pipe. What a PITA to get at it when you can only feel and have big beefy arms that barely fit anywhere.

The pipe on my spare rack has a little rust on it so I will try to make a new one of these. I have never seen a flare like this one with the o-ring so I will be searching around. Does anybody have contact information for places that reman iX racks? Having four of these cars (one is for sale), I probably will see this problem again.Leave a comment:

I have a spare rack in my FS thread if you are interested.Minor thread redirection -
I too have a leaking and old (200,000+mile) ps system in my 88 iX, although not from the rack. Anyone have experience with a proper ps delete on an iX, which would entail removing all unnecessary parts and use a fancy plate to loop the fluid? I understand the potential challenges of parking...
So: replace all of the things, (reservoir, lines and rebuild/replace pump) or remove all of the things. Thanks for the input :pimp:

one of these days I will have time to pull this pipe off the rack and make a new one. One of these days. Saab 9-5, Saturn Sl1, two jeep XJs, F150, 4x 325ix (one is for sale), and a Yamaha 1980 DT175. Too much maintenance all around. Some day I can look at my 88iX.Leave a comment:

Thanks for the iX specific responses, sort of what I thought would be the case.
I'll add it to the list of numerous other things required for this Spring tune up.. cheers :drink:

yeah, aside from the slow ratio - ix's don't have super light steering like the RWD cars do anyway.Leave a comment:

My rack went out on my previous IX and I had to use no PS for a few weeks while I got another one. I had 205/50 azeni rt-615s, which are fairly sticky. I felt like Austin Powers trying to turn that car around in a parking lot. It is definitely not viable for IXs.
Well, maybe if you're The Rock.Leave a comment:
