Tie rod arm?

How do I replace the tie rod? Do I have to drop the subframe? Not just the end piece, but the entire arm portion leaving the rack. I have some sort of clunk and I have a feeling its related to that because the PO purchased one and I have verified its not the ball joint or tie rod end...

No. just turn the rack to full lock until it sticks out past the subframe. cut off the boots, remove the locks - it should spin right off.

you might need a tool to loosen the tie rod, I rented one from autozone to loosen the inner tie rod. it is like a socket but with a slot so it fits over the assembly.

Something like this helped me get it loose.

not even that - just a regular open ended wrench. But if you're replacing them, that will work!

Fan clutch wrench fits perfect..

Your not a idiot. You just havent done this job yet. I made the same mistake when I replaced mine too. Lol
