    Shifter rebuild?

Is it possible to rebuild the shifter arm bushings without dropping the transmission or the transfer case?

I have about 2 to 3 inches of side to side slop while in gear, and it's just straight annoying to drive every day with this slop.

Also anyone near Albany NY, and want to wrench together?

I think you can do it by just lowering it a few inches

Yes, drop the rear of the transmission and use an offset pick to get the bit** clip off. Best 10$ i have ever spent.

I literally spent no more than 5 minutes to get the clip off.

I did it on my rallycross car without dropping the transmission or transfercase. Just let it tilt back. It's not fun, but it is easier.

There is no way in hell my hands are getting in there, even tilting the engine back as far as you can.

It was very tight. I took it as an opportunity to do a clutch job.

The mount of effort involved in trying not to drop the transfer case would have been more than just dropping the transfer case.

I should have stated that it's not possible to do the shift coupler without dropping the transfercase. The shift coupler is usually responsible for a good amount of slop on it's own.
