iX diff from 3.91 to 4.10?

I'm not sure here but I think my manual iX has a 3.91 front and rear. Is it possible to convert to 4.10? What differences can I expect in performance and MPG? I assume you would have to change front and rear. Thanks.

You would have to get a front AND rear diff from a auto ix. You would see a slight increase in accell and a slight decrease in mileage. IMHO not worth the effort.

I've got a 4.10 front diff hanging around, but I'd just accept that your ix is slow.

The car feels a hell of a lot better with the 4.10s. If you can stand the highway cruising RPMs, it is definitely worth the effort IMHO. The iX will still be slow, but will more readily put a smile on your face :-)

I hate 4.10. LOL at a guy who had a turbo eta with a 4.10. ahhh

I want to get like a 3.25 for my ix but i dont think they ever made one...

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

lowest you can get is the 3.64

4.10s are fine though - but my car came with them. I'm not sure I'd bother with a swap.

yea I really didnt think it would be worth the swap, seeing as what a bitch it was to replace my front diff before, not to mention I do a fair amount of hwy driving. Just curious mainly. Now if you could do 4.10 and a 6 speed tranny...

got 4.10s in my car (auto in previous life). i love the 4.10s although hway cruising is in the higher rpm ranges and fuel consumption is slightly more.

no point, as our 5th gear is pretty much as overdriven as any bmw 6 speed tranny.

hardly - .83, even the 4hp22 automatic has a more overdriven gear. my 5th gear feels like 4th on the freeway - right at 3500rpm where the torque curve starts to take off. at least I don't have to downshift to pass I guess.

comparing to newer 6 speeds isn't the same as they use a numerically lower rear diff - 3.25 etc instead of our 3.91/4.10.
