no, it's not, not unless you plan on doing it all in one coat without wet sanding between, in which case you will be able to tell it was rattle canned. I used 1 can of primer, 2 cans of base and 2-3 cans of clear on my lip. maybe you can get away with less base on a black car, but on silver I don't think it will be enough.

go ahead and order one can if you wish, but if you order two you can always use the other one to paint other things on your car (like your spoiler, heh). but if you only get one, and it turns out that it's not enough, you gotta order again, wait a week and pay shipping twice..

when it's all done, wetsand the clearcoat with 2000 grit and polish with 3m fine rubbing compound, it will look great. :)

also make sure to get flexible primer and the flex additive for your clearcoat..
I'm not going to argue with you and say that your method does not work, because it does. But I will say that I think you overdid it. Not a bad thing. Result is what's important. But I do not think that 2 cans at 12oz each is necessary at all.

For example, I just finished up painting a full set of sideskirts and rear bumper cover, 2 coats, with less than 1 Quart of paint. (Primer, clear is not included obviously).
1 Quart is little less than 1 Litre. 12.5oz standard rattle can contains about 340g. So you get the idea.

If you prep right and spray thin coats like you should, I don't see how 1 can would NOT do the job.
But like I said, if it can be done with 1 can, it can also be done with 2. So Dan, it's your pick.

dan that's probably not a bad idea. I'm not sure if I'm going to do the spray bomb thing again.. it turned out great last time, but there's a bunch of other shit on my car that needs painted, and once you get past 1-2 cans of that stuff it starts to get overly expensive. Also I don't really like their clearcoat that much, and they overcharge for the primer (it's just SEM flexible primer).

one of the guys from my dads shop does a shit load of custom painting and he was buggin him all the time who painted it because it was one of the best jobs he's ever seen, he couldn't believe it was done outside with rattle cans

there was no orange peel and no runs and it was not wet sanded or cleared.

ya no kiddin. If the car was primed as it should, wet sanding, or at least extremely fine sanding would be necessary for the paint to even look half-decent.

I've always been quoted in the $125-175 range, depending on how shady the shop is.

never said it wasn't primed, i assumed that since you guys are car guys you would know that you only prime areas of bare metal.

this was 3 years ago actually he has since sold the car and i still see it going once in a while and it dosn't look too too bad. now it's seen the eastern canadian winters, so i'm not sure what it's supposed to look like

all i'm saying is if you take your time and have a good spray pattern and even coats rattle can can look as well as a professional, it's just 1000x times quicker with a gun.
