How to make a skid plate?

Yeah.. my EJskid plate has held up through the toughest of sensible crap.
With my housings sectioned and car heavily lowered, the rebound in my suspension travel would make the plate tap the ground all the time, especially on the freeway.

Never a problem, idk how people are bending/destroying your pans with them on. Shitty motor mounts making the pan contact the plate?

the skid is not that hard to bend. put it on the ground and jump on it. we're talking about someone who is 200lbs. image what a 2800lbs car can do. at some point the skid will start to bend in and contact with your pan. one last blow and bye bye oil pan..

Well yeah it'll bend, it's not attached to anything. If it was bolted to the ground with the 7(?) bolts in front and 2 in the back I doubt it will bend lol.

nope..i'm pretty sure if i slam the rad support into a pot hole, it'll bent too.

LOL exactly. The plate cannot bend at the apex unless either the radiator support moves or the steering rack bolts move. It's simple physics of a triangle.

When is the last time you replaced your motor mounts?


Also, how can you slam the radiator support into a pot hole? Or a skid plate for that matter? You'd have to have one tire half way down in it.

When you figure out how to make it could you post a diy? Cause paying 230 bux for a plate feels like rape. If they were 100$ fine but I'm not gonna support these guys they're like the gas companies. thanks man

I agree with this. If you are too cheap/broke to buy it from someone else for what they are asking, Make it yourself? Tools cost money, it takes tools to make these things. Feel free to go out and buy yourself a nice drill/bits/metal break (or torch to heat the metal to bend it). By the time you do this, you will probably wish you had just bought the skid plate. Everyone wants everything for free now days, but those same people never want to give anything away.

what are you guys running spring wise that you are this low?

take a tape measure, get some rough measurements. make sure to be generous. get some cardboard, cut it to those measurements. then, fit and trim. once you have it how you want it, use the cardboard as a template for the steel.

I'm about to drop my car with the gb JOM coilovers and want to buy a skid Plate but can't seem to find one under 200. Seems like a bit much IMO. I do work in a body shop And have access to about anything I would need to fabricate my own. However the dilema is I would need a decent diagram with measurement and/or an actual skid plate. This should be a fairly easy project with some basic welding skills. It would make a really cool how to thread as well. Any takers?
