well I don't think it has been mentioned but when I took it out of my friends trunk there was RUST under the tar. Take that crap out if you still have it.

open your trunk so the sun can hit the tar

have u guys ever tried using dry ice to take off the tar?? thats how my friend did it on his... and it was like the exact opposite... he waited for a really cold night to do his.. he put the dry ice on, waited a while, then got a hammer and it just broke off..

Just looked under the carpet of my touring... no tar :D

Which makes total sense, since the extra glass of the touring more than offsets the engine weight I guess.

Trunk tar is a retarded attemp at restoring some of the lost weight distribution. I think it weighs closer to 60lbs. Remove it, along with your spare and you will notice increased acceleration, and a little more tail happiness.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.

Are you sure about that? People keep saying that without the trunk tar, their car is more "tail happy", but if I recall correctly, a lighter rear end increases the cars tendancy to understeer, not oversteer...
It would be simillar to adding weight up front. The car would want to "plow".

I'm no handleing expert though, so please correct me if I am wrong...

wah, just use dry ice :) Ive done two 2002's with dry ice now, one is completely done which is worth like 4 or 5 trunk worths at least, and another I did about half of to see if the metal was good enough underneath to use on my other. I say suck it up and do it. Hot day, cold day, dont matter. There's always some way to get it out regardless of the outside temperature.
