oh, and when i took it out i found damage from a previous accident that had been fixed. and rust under the battery tray, and a bit of rust on the right side wheel well. i'm going to clean it up and wire wheel it all out. then give it a few nice coats of rust-oleum. should i go fuh-raze flat black, or OEM body color?

Originally posted by Justin Bwah, just use dry ice :) Ive done two 2002's with dry ice now, one is completely done which is worth like 4 or 5 trunk worths at least, and another I did about half of to see if the metal was good enough underneath to use on my other. I say suck it up and do it. Hot day, cold day, dont matter. There's always some way to get it out regardless of the outside temperature.sigpicComment

OK, so about a month ago I did the hot sun routine and it worked like a charm, except the bit under the rear shelf which try as I might couldn't get the sun to heat up. So today I just bought 11 pounds of dry ice @ 1.25$ a pound from baskin robbins. I just broke it up and put on the remaining tar, then covered with rags. My chasis is making all sorts of creaking noises now, hope I dont f*ck anything up. Will report after an hour or so of freezing.

well that was easy, prolly didnt need that much dry ice, but save for some tough spots, just wacked the tar with a hammer and came off in big pieces. No residue either! I like this method, and reccomend it for anything you cant get off with the hot day in the sun method.

I was going to say Dry Ice, it works so much better than a heat gun method. Good Job!Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

The dryice method works WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better then a heat gun even in 90 degree weather.
This took us about 30 minutes with 10lbs of dry ice and an 8 lb sledge. The trick is to try and break the dryice up into a powder and spread it everywhere. Have a cigarette and beer and then get to "tapping it" with the sledge.
Yah I know I just got the car yesterday. :DComment
