i also found out that my cabrio wasent set up from the factory to accept a hardtop because the mounting hole/bracket that came on it wasent big enough for the mounting pins on my hardtop. fortunantly my dads (lagoon green 92) had the right mounts so i just quickly swapped them out. the one on the floor it the one that was on my car and the plastic one is the one i ended up using

Use really small amounts of white lithium grease and rub it into the window tracks, As well as the top. But make sure you use a q-tip or somthing. Otherwise you will have a mess.

would it be a good idea to put that on the rubber parts that contact the body too so thwart abrasion? and what do you usualy do when you mount your hardtop for the winter? (basic procedure)

I would, I knew a guy in Gaston(local city) And he used white lithium in small doses where it contacted any part of the car.(rubber on glass/metal/paint). because before he did it was unbearable to ride in.
Ill be getting my hardtop within a few weeks and ill follow this procedure as well. I dont imagine this is a really bad issue because if it was im sure we would seen more resonse. But nonetheless ill experiment with different solutions

does anyone know if the built-in defroster behind the seats gets switched off when the top is down? when i have the hard top on and the top is down it dosent seem like my defroster is doing anything and my car dosent have the wireing for the defroster in the hardop window so my rear window fogs up and i cant do anything about it

Yes the built in defroster behind the seats is on a mirco switch that senses if the soft top is down. It opens the circuit and will not allow it to turn on. There should be a little wire somewhere down by the mounting holes on the car that you plug in to the hole pieces.

Here are directions from an online manual:

Reviving an old post as I just picked up a hardtop for my 6/87 build cabrio and it is set up for the hardtop (has receptacles with wires to supply power and ground to the hardtop through the corresponding wires on the pins on the hardtop. When was wishno's car built?
